Hi, I'm Cara.
I'm glad you're here.
Ever since I was a child, I've been fascinated by the ways humans make meaning - the rituals, traditions and stories that shape our lives and societies. That curiosity eventually led me to social science, but long before that I was already wondering about life's big transitions, and the many different ways cultures approach death.
That curiosity found more depth around twenty years ago when I began exploring Buddhist philosophy and practices. It offered a way of understanding death, impermanence and what it means to live well that resonated deeply with me. Combined with travel, a number of personal experiences with death and loss, and years spent with others navigating death and grief, it gradually became both my vocation and my work.
Through all of it, what has been clear to me is that we can do death differently, and we were never meant to carry it all alone.
I see death as an integral part of life, and believe that when we're willing to turn towards it together, we find the courage to show up for one another in ways that matter. Dying and grieving are not experiences that individuals or families should have to carry alone, nor are they experiences that belong only within healthcare settings. They are part of life, and something we can meet together as communities. I care deeply about strengthening the ways people, families and communities prepare for, care through, and live with death, dying and grief.
For more than twenty years, I've walked alongside people from all walks of life, exploring how we care for one another, strengthen community, and create places where people feel they belong. My work has spanned community development, palliative and hospice care, aged care, multicultural services, local government and international development.
Whether I'm working with an organisation or sitting with someone at their kitchen table, I bring a calm, steady presence. I work gently and collaboratively, guided by what matters most to you, and at your pace.
If you'd like to explore how we might work together, I'd love to hear from you.
